Last weekend’s Bakesale for Japan was fantastic! The tables outside Piazzola in Oakland were full of the most delicious looking gourmet goodies. I picked up a bag of excruciatingly tasty chocolate chip cookies sprinkled with sea salt, a red velvet cupcake, which I gobbled up on the spot, and a peculiar little jar. This tiny little jar was wrapped in a beautiful little print and held something that looked like seaweed and sesame seeds. After further inquiry, I found this tiny little jar contained a Japanese delicacy, well more like a Japanese condiment. It’s called Yuko Sato’s San-Riku Kombu Tsukudani. It’s made by the local Japanese catering company Peko-Peko, whose owner used to work at Chez Panisse, and it tastes delicious with brown rice!
